CHRISTMAS SNOWFLAKES HAT

GENERAL INFORMATION:
This is a festive looking beanie type hat featuring
snowflake mosaic pattern. The technique includes changing colors on every two
rows and the colorwork is created by slipping stitches from the previous rows.
In the beautiful Christmas colors of Stenli yarns MerinoGold yarn this hat is a wonderful present for all - man and women, boys, and
girls.
Two sizes available to fit child / small adult or large
adult. The design will benefit from proper blocking. It features written
instructions.
The hat is complemented by the Christmas Snowflakes Cowl.
The pattern is suitable for adventurous beginners.
SIZE:
child / small adult - to fit head 55-57 cm
large adult – to fit head 58-61 cm
MATERIALS:
Yarn (both sizes):
Color A: Stenli yarns Merino Gold, color 701 (dark green) 50 gr ;
Color B: Stenli yarns Merino Gold, color 387 (bordeaux) 50
gr
Needles:
Circular or double pointed needles size 5 mm: and
Circular or double pointed needles size 6 mm or size necessary to achieve gauge.
Other:
1 stitch markers, darning needle, scissors.
GAUGE:
Gauge (in stockinette stitch): 18 stitches x 25 rows for 10 cm x 10 cm

SNOWFLAKE PATTERN А (4 st / 8 rounds per repeat)
Round 1 (color A): with Color A (k1, YO, k1) in the first st
(this creates 3 stitches out of 1), k3 (6 st);
Round 2 (color B): change to Color B, sl3, k3 (6 st);
Round 3 (color B): k2tog, sl1, ssk, k1 (4 st);
NB: When working the piece, work the k2tog of the first
pattern repeat of this round using the first stitch of the round and the last
stitch of the previous round. The marker for the beginning of the round should
be moved before this stitch. Continue repeating the 4 st of the pattern as
given above until end of the round.
Round 4 (color A): change to Color A, k3, sl1 (4 st);
Round 5 (color A): k3, (k1, YO, k1) in the next st (this
creates 3 stitches out of 1) (6 st);
Round 6 (color B): change to Color B, k3, sl3 (6 st);
Round 7 (color B): k1, k2tog, sl1, ssk (4 st);
NB: When working the piece, k1 before starting the first
pattern repeat of this round. Continue until end of the round and in the last
repeat the ssk will use the last stitch of this round and the first st of the
next round. The marker for beginning of the round should be moved after this
ssk.
Round 8 (Color A): change to Color A, sl1, k3 (4 st)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Using needles size 5 mm and Color A cast on 88 (96)
stitches. Join in the round and mark beginning of the round by placing a stitch
marker and work rib as follows: *k1, p1*, repeat st between ** until end of the
round. Continue until rib measures approx. 3 (4) cm.
Change to needles size 6 mm and work Snowflake Pattern А x
22 (24) times until end of the round. Continue in pattern until piece measures
approx. 17 (19) cm from the cast on edge, finishing on Round 4 (last worked
round).
Now work the crown as follows:
Round 1 (color A): *CDD, (k1, YO, k1) in the next st, CDD,
k1* repeat stitches between ** until end of the round;
Round 2 (Color B): change to Color B, *k1, sl3, k2* repeat
stitches between ** until end of the round;
Round 3(Color B): k2tog, sl1, ssk, k1, repeat stitches
between ** until end of the round;
Round 4(Color A): change to color A, *CDD, k1* repeat stitches between ** until end of the round;
Piece measures approx. 22 (24) cm. There are 22 (24) sts on the needle. On the next round work continuing with Color A, k2tog over all the stitches. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten.
Block the piece appropriately.
The hat combines beautifuly with Cowl "ChristmasSnowflakes"
